RE: Brake fluid change

I think Dot 5 is more hydroscopic and absorbs more moisture?

RE: shock when touched door

When I first plug in to shore power, I always swipe my hand across the door handle before grasping it. We had a local teenage girl electrocuted when she touched the door handle of her Grampas trailer which was plugged into a household outlet.

RE: A/C dripping water into coach

I have had two Dometic A/Cs and both developed leaks from cracked plastic drain pans. Matter of fact I have one I am working on right now. Replacing these drain pans appear to be not practical.

RE: 1998 Bounder f 53 460 engine 4r100 transmission

change your fluid and cooler before doing anything else and see if this don't solve the problem. most transmisson shops will do the fluid change w/no problem but the cooler is another story, but it is important this gets done also, all the goo that doesn't come out the plug will be trapped in the cooler, clogging it, and then it's back to square one.... I removed my stock cooler and flushed it out with a water hose. Amazing how much gray thick gunk came out.

RE: fuel inj. cleaner in 8.1?????

I think I will tickle my emotions by saving the money. Never had a need to use fuel injector cleaner.

RE: Ford 460 FI dies after 20 miles - FIXED Thanksl!!!

How abrupt is the failure? One should differentiate the symptoms between a fuel failure and an electrical failure. Fuel failure typically spits and sputters before is dies. Electrical is usually rather abrupt. When the electrical quits, it cut in and out or just cuts out completely, no spit or rough running. Also when the fuel quits, and one attempts to start it again, it will likely misfire, or almost start. One other trick you can pull. Buy a can of starting fluid. When it dies, squirt some starting fluid down the intake. If it starts, you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't, you have an electrical problem. Its just that simple. Great advice. Works every time.

RE: Ford 460 FI dies after 20 miles - FIXED Thanksl!!!

Try running it with the gas cap off. You may simply have a tank venting problem. The fuel tank is not vented and there is only one fuel filter, located along the left frame side rail. all fuel tanks are vented except bladder tanks Over 60 degrees temp diff, fuel expands nearly 6% Not vented thru the cap! It is a closed system to prevent the escape of gas vapors. The vapors are collected in a charcoal canister to be ingested into the engine for burn off.

RE: Breaks failed...

Oh here we go with the "you are putting everyone at risk" stuff. What he did was ok. He was careful and made it didn't he? Worry about something else.

RE: Ford 460 FI dies after 20 miles - FIXED Thanksl!!!

My 1996 did the same thing. Replaced the fuel pump. You don't have to drop the tank all the way down or drain the tank. We simply tilted it down on the right side and reached above the tank and replaced it. About $200 for the pump. Good luck.

RE: using water pump & "city water" together

The pressure regulator can be anywhere you want to put it. I do not use one, as the Pex pipe in my MH is rated at 150 psi and I have 2 whole house water filters built in to the system, so there is no need for another restriction in line. Texan - I agree that the pipe is rated that high, but what about the fittings and water heater and other potential weak points? I believe I read somewhere that Monaco does a sustained pressure test at 85 or 90psi - don't remember which. I believe that was also a RIVA standard. I will check to see if I can find that again. I think my point is that the pipe isn't always the weak point of the plumbing system. I found that out when I didn't use a regulator on my first coach and found out the weak point was the water heater - blew that sucka right out. It was old and weak, but acted as the "fuse" for my whole plumbing system :( Not arguing your point, but rather just making a new one... --kevinThe research I've done indicates that the Pex rating of 150# is the weak point in the fresh water system. All other fittings and the water heater are rated for a higher pressure. The 2 whole house filters, at the entrance to the fresh water system in the wet bay, actually acts as a pressure regulator due to the double 5 micron filters. Also, the white hose will rupture with a large spike in pressure. I do have a pressure monitor attached to the spigot, but in over 5 years of full timing and many years of being a weekend warrior prior to that, I have never seen a pressure high enough to worry about. The day I see a pressure number above 75#, I will install a regulator, but have not seen anything near that figure yet. Your two 5 micron filters will definitely reduce flow rate but it will not regulate pressure. Turn off your facetts and the line pressure will assume city water feed pressure.

RE: Banks Ram Air

It is good to hear expert opinions once in a while. Perhaps with this expert opinion, one can make a better informed decision if the cost of the Banks System is warranted or not? I lean toward the "or not" side based on this thread.

RE: using water pump & "city water" together

If the city pressure is LESS than the pump pressure, MY pump will run. Done it.

RE: Satellite: How to obtain service for an exisitng hookup?

Find another friend with the same service.;) Or contact the satellite provider and activate the service in your name. If it is Dish Network, they do have a pay as you go plan. I think it is called Dish Now and has a special receiver and you purchase air time. I just called Dish and asked about their Dish Now service. After going through several reps who either didn't speak english or didn't know that they had something called Dish Now, I was told that the $40 cards ARE NOT like a prepaid phone. You don't use time as you go. If you purchase a card that is good for 40 days (depending on the plan you choose) it is ONLY good for 40 days. If you use it for 2 days then park the camper for a month or two, you don't have any air time left. It is targeted at people who have bad credit and cannot get a contract. Unlike a prepaid phone, if you don't use it you lose it. I think I'll stay with digital over the air broadcasts. It would be a great idea for RVers though, if it worked. It works and it is great for us. NO ANNUAL CONTRACT REQUIRED. No,don't purchase a card if you are out for only a couple of days. Watch broadcast TV instead. We use it for several months at a time. BTW, our credit is score is in excess of 800.

RE: Satellite: How to obtain service for an exisitng hookup?

Aren't all the receivers leased from the company? If so then they still own them and they need to be returned. They can't be bought and sold if still owned by the satelite company. Not Dish Network. You buy it and if it quits or needs upgrade, you buy another.

RE: Satellite: How to obtain service for an exisitng hookup?

I use "Dish Now" in my motorhome. No contract and only pay when you use it. Great way to go.
